ABOUT THE PIECE:

Fine Art | Giclee Print | Limited Edition of 500

These drawings are LARGE, and come in one size only, and are the same as the original size in the sketchbook. In the photos, you can see me standing with the sketchbook which is a 17 x 14 size.

I did these drawings after the painting 'Alvarium'. I wanted to see how large I could go with black pen. I had completely forgotten about these drawings until recently when I was searching desperately in every sketchbook I had for a print I thought I lost.

I did not find the print, however, I found these. Honeycomb V and VI, are the "Lost Honeycombs". This was a very nice surprise since I had completely forgotten I had ever done them. I later remembered that I had sent the print I was looking for to someone as a gift~ I do believe the universe wanted me to find them.

*please note* Picture 2 shows both Honeycomb V and VI together so that you can see them side by side. This listing is for one drawing, "Honeycomb 6".

The Hive Series is a set of drawings and paintings that I did several years ago when I wanted to start painting about bees and their role as an integral part of our current eco-system.

Instead of drawing bees per se, I started sketching what the bees created, which is the honeycomb. I wanted to create paintings of actual bees, however, I felt a more modern interpretation would be the honeycomb.

Around 36 B.C., a scholar by the name of Marcus Terentius Varro first wrote about why bees make a hexagonal shape, later dubbed the “the honeycomb conjecture,” by stating that, compared to other shapes such as a triangle or a square, a “hexagon inscribed in a circular figure encloses the greatest amount of space.”

    Paper: Sommerset

Original was made with Micron Pen

Signed & Numbered by St. Louis Fine Artist - Jennifer Klemp

    One size only: 14 3/4 inches x 11 3/4 inches

Framing tip: These drawings would hang nicely as a diptych, or hung as two pieces of art side by side. My favorite mat color to use for these is a charcoal grey, with a black wood frame.

Please note, we give plenty of room around the image. This will allow for many custom matting preferences since there are so many options.  Generally speaking, though, you want the image to have enough room to breath when framed. Paper size may vary slightly, as each piece is cut by hand.
