ABOUT THE PIECE

Jennifer Klemp's Grid Series is inspired by the artist’s own internal inner searching and manifestation. Her recent work taps into the spiritual and introspective nature found within one’s self. Each piece is created laboriously, drop by drop, fusing traditional methods with abstract undertones. Attention to color theory is intentional, with bright punches of color found throughout.

A note from the Artist:

"Bubble:  Originally a question of what was needed to focus, the answer I received was that consistent action was the answer. What does consistent action mean though?

For me, consistent action means pursuing my dreams in a small way each day, to create progress. Essentially creating habits to create is the key. This one however, feels playful with bubbles in the grid. The rays of the sun are seen as a multi-colored element which reminds me of 70's Mod.

The grid within the encapsulated rope area is more complicated and dense. I imagine myself as being in the rope area~ not wanting to come out into the big picture. There is a big thick line which goes through the collection of small squares in the roped off area signifying that there is connection to that which surrounds us. We can't always stay in our 'bubble' and have to venture out occasionally into the wide world.

The big thick line is messy and has other thicker lines around it that do not have the exactness that some of the more recent drawings have. There is something about the beginning work that carries a freshness within that usually cannot be reproduced as you move on in any series.

The color harmony was bright and cheerful with a nod of burnt sienna, which is a classic color to any traditional oil painters palette. The yellow is vibrant and cheerful."
