ABOUT THE PIECE

This fine art print from the Grid Series is called 'Animus'. Originally a question of a secret manifestation, this drawing in the end represented a fusion of feminine and masculine energy. As in classical architecture, the rounded form represents the female, and the triangle the male.

A note from the Artist:

"This is my favorite sketch in this Grid Series so far, and I love the thin lines in color groupings which can be seen in the upper right hand corner of the drawing in distinct color blocks. The female shape which is encapsulated by the rope holds within one of its squares part of the male aspect (the abstract marks), yet it's a more condensed version in the circular form.Animus was the drawing that almost wasn't. The original drawing was done twice. The first one was very good, and I left it under an open window, on accident and the rain made the marker run in several spots.

These marker drawings are, as I have noticed, subject to some fading over time, and obviously the color runs. I felt very close to 'Animus' though as a piece which asked strong questions, and gave an equally strong drawing. This drawing never produced a strong answer about my original question, although it displayed subconsciously part of what was going on in my mind. I was however, very happy with the drawing being what I wanted- which is rare. I decided to be happy with the drawing rather than an answer."
